URBAN LANDSCAPES (2005-P)
My early paintings focus on technique, color and materials. While always interested in modern aesthetics, my process stemmed from studying traditional, representational landscape and portrait artists painting academically, in front of a model or out in a field. In time, I became more attentive to patterns reappearing than mastering individual faces or places. My work shifted from controlling hand-eye to depicting less physical, intangible observations. I became inspired by the visceral. Focus shifted from interpreting a model or field to replicating nature's repetitive lines, shapes, patterns- life's inherent visual vocabulary that evokes feeling through osmosis. I'm awed by elements of nature shared field to field- person to person- that establish order and communication.
