HANGING IN BALANCE (2006)
Initially, HANGING IN BALANCE is in equilibrium. An A frame supports a free floating body, contingent on a small piece of ice remaining frozen. The sculpture awaits the moment when the ice’s state returns to water, triggering springs of 1800 lbs of pressure into action. The sculpture collapses, violently altering itself from a dynamic to a static sculpture. The delicate relationship between the stable frame and the transforming body is reconfigured in a temperate environment. "Hanging In Balance conceptually speaks to the co-dependancy between industry, technology and the environment which allows civilization to exist." -MA
