For Immediate Release: A MULTIMEDIA EVENT SWEEPS BROOKLYN...

(WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN) Williamsburg has grown to be home for over fifty galleries yet not a single theater nor venue is dedicated to showcasing the art of film. In early 2005, Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery issued a Call For Entries for film shorts and multimedia work among the escalating number of films and filmmakers utilizing Williamsburg. Within days, the entry information was posted on over thirty websites and printed in magazines. Submissions piled in from across the USA, France, Germany, Canada, Spain, Tel Aviv, England and Portugal. “SHOOT”, a yearly exhibition of film and multimedia art at Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery, was born.

After months of reviewing 232 submissions, 15 outstanding fresh film shorts were chosen by emerging filmmakers for an exclusive engagement screening event and (Visit SHOOT website for more information) a single artist was chosen for a solo exhibition.

Gurevich was chosen for her refreshing technique of amalgamizing and questioning the capacities of acrylic and film as creative mediums. Her multimedia installation melds self portrait painting with footage of her youth in an Israeli kibbutz, blurring narrative and physical boundaries recollected on canvas with that captured on video. Gurevich’s use of multimedia extends beyond the medium in which her art is made and creates a dichotomy where memory and documentation thrive off each other.

An exhibition catalogue with essays by James Kalm and Dalit Anolik is available in print at the gallery. Essays and more information online at:www.damstuhltrager.com/dalitgurevich.htm.
