ONE IS BETTER: An exhibit of multiples

Defining order and the process of creating arrangements is a bi-product of daily routine. For artists, cycles of creation and destruction in life can inspire work conceptually and aesthetically. For the exhibit, “ONE IS BETTER” artists explore repetition and pattern to redefine the notion of “multiples”. Contrasting mass production, each multiple is a series of related works revealing one whole picture of a complex system.

about the curator: Born in Istanbul, Devrim Kadirbeyoglu came to the U.S.to obtain her MFA in Studio For Interrelated Media from Massachusetts College of Art. Currently residing in New York, she joined the curatorial team at Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery in 2005.

REVISIONIST HISTORY: Getting the Story Straight
Artists Michael Zansky, Bradley Rubenstein and D. Dominick Lombardi rework their art from the past in an attempt to better understand the meaning of it all. Zansky recycles sketchbook drawings, adding an organizing narrative to the world around him. Rubenstein creates a series of prints based on past paintings that he overpainted to realize a new, evolving body of work. Lombardi paints over the paintings he did as a pre-teen with abstract tattoo designs to reorient his thinking.

about the curator: Andrea Stanislav lives and works in Minneapolis and New York City. Her recent curatorial projects are “Enchanted” at Nash Gallery and 8X8X8-Connecting the Dots at the Soap Factory in Minneapolis.
