With the St. Petersburg Biennial, a public project at the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, Dam Stuhltrager’s Berlin residency, the Moscow Biennial, the Hunterdon Museum, and The Arctic Circle Expedition, as well as handful of other exhibits… Dam, Stuhltrager's artists are taking off and flying high all around the world.
An incubator for their artists’ careers, Dam Stuhltrager Gallery is extremely proud to sponsor a 6 month project showcasing new talent at their space in Brooklyn. Dam Stuhltrager is excited to have none other than Lynn Del Sol of Creative Thriftshop develop this innovative and progressive program catapulting new talent into the spotlight.
Demonstrating why she was top choice to serve as guest curator, Lynn Del Sol springboards off of Dam Stuhltrager’s successful summer exhibit exploring the Artist - Gallery relationship with an exhibit inquiring into the Artist - Curator relationship. A bold inauguration, Del Sol begins her tenure by exhibiting artist Eric Doeringer’s bootleg Sol Lewitt pieces. (Read full press release…)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A NEW TREATY BRIDGES DIVIDES
Founded by Dam Stuhltrager/ Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Gallery Homeland/ Portland, Oregon, The East/West Project supports the advancement of global understanding through initiating long term relationships among multinational cultures.
Far more than just a gallery annex, The EAST/WEST Project is a 501(c) international artist residency and exhibition program that travels to different communities around the world recognized for their emerging art scene. The project encourages cultural exchange by establishing a short term (about six months) gallery and residential space for international artists to share, develop, progress contemporary ideas and build long term relationships.
From Sept 19, 2009 - March 31, 2010 EAST/WEST BERLIN will be in the heart of Mitte within two blocks of Berlin's major transit hub and famous TV tower, ideally located among some of Germany's most recognized emerging art galleries and museums.
In Apr - Sept of 2010, EAST/WEST will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In July of '05, Mark Andreas premiered at Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery and was immediately retained for a show at the CAC in North Adams, MA. Since then, Andreas has exhibited in Chicago, Hamptons, Newark, Miami and Brooklyn... Not merely once- but twice in each city. Fresh back from rave reviews in Istanbul last November, Andreas kickstarted '08 with simultaneous shows in Chattanooga and Newark. This April, Andreas makes his NYC debut.
Dam, Stuhltrager is proud to partner with Leo Kesting to bring the brightest Brooklyn stars to NYC. Three sculptures from Andreas "Reactive Sculpture Series" are ready for action in Manhattan:
AVIAN RESERVOIR (2007) In Andreas' first wall installation, majestic wood wings are propelled into downward strokes. Referencing movement of a large powerful bird, the sculpture is triggered into motion by loss of water. From within the winged body mounted to the wall, a defined amount of water slowly drips out. Removing the water's weight lifts the reservoir thus lowering the wings. The dripping among a quiet, serene environment creates an echo familiar to a leaky faucet. In an environment flooded with noise of busy lives, water falling becomes indistinguishable among white noise. "'Avian Reservoir' conceptually speaks to the repercussions of water depletion as a priceless natural, global resource." - MA
CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM (2007) Ignited by the artist for an audience, Conservation Of Momentum's demure composure depends on the existence of fuel in a chamber. Aware of sculpture's dependancy on a finite fuel source, viewers await the impending transformation once the oil supply vanishes. The latent energy stored in the body of the piece deploys the sculpture’s cloak, ultimately shrouding and veiling its delicate allure with a luscious red cloak. "We are all subtly aware of a latent power and potentiality underlying a society almost wholly dependent on fuel." - MA
SEED SPREADER (2005) In a laborious performance the towering, 400lb Seed Spreader is assembled and wound. Andreas builds tension to a climax, then replaces his physical energy/force by inserting a twig into the sculpture. The twig fends off releasing under pressure until snapping. The twig succumbs to its strenuous environment, activating the sculpture to jump in the air, spin 3ft blades and shoot grass seeds which grow. "Seed Spreader conceptually speaks to the lack of control consumers have over food production. It physically mimics techniques employed by media and politicians to draw audiences by the use of fear and intimidation."- MA
Borrowing from extensive experience as a metalsmith and ship builder, Andreas' art has informed technical skill/physical craftsmanship. It is only after seeing the young artist perform with his sculpture that one realizes this work was created by a man who just entered his thirties. Catch Andreas' live performances at the opening reception- he is headed to Basel before you can say "I saw him when..."

Not to be outdone abroad- Dam, Stuhltrager's fall/winter lineup in Brooklyn brings home solo exhibits from favorites Loren Munk, Ruth Marshall and Mark Esper... In October: Consult Munk's map paintings to trace where art's been, at and going. While making connections through history, become an immortalized part of the present by adding yourself to the record then and there. In November: Catch Marshall's complete collection of handknit coral snake skins (all 66 species found on earth) and the viper tapestry that launched her into the world of textiles. In January: After three sprawling simultaneous solo exhibits at three Williamsburg galleries in '05, Esper breaks new ground by becoming the first artist to fill all three of Dam, Stuhltrager's galleries. 2007 Marks the "Year of Esper".

-Dam, Stuhltrager plans another large installation for -scope Hamptons this June! Feature Artist: Mark Andreas will present one of his reaction sculptures, "Hanging In Balance" . Inspired by Andreas' expertise in boat making, this sculpture's wood beams, steel hips and feet delicately await the moment when a cube of ice melts to water, triggering springs of 1800 lbs of pressure into action.
