When Science and Spirituality Collide, Art Sees

For eons the mystics and shaman have been saying it; ours is only one small universe of many, there are untold levels of existence within a grain of sand, obscure forces, unperceived control our “reality”. Since the “Age of Enlightenment” we have dismissed these ideas as fantasies of poetic illusion, putting our faith in “science,” supposedly a more empirical revealer of truth. As science has evolved with particle physics and string theory, the postulates put forward by our most advanced physicists seem to echo the koans of the visionaries.

Art is the nexus between science and the metaphysical. Those questions asked of art by the philosophers about the essence of beauty, its relevance to life and the understanding of vision, can be perhaps not answered, but at least diagramed and clarified through paint.

If, as Ad Reinhardt quipped “art is art, everything else is everything else”, it is appropriate for its rational examination that one should use art as the vehicle. The art universe is vast, and like our own universe 90% is composed of “dark matter.” This body of work is a humble beginning in seeking understanding and illumination of the art cultural universe, a study of the energy that is art, and the connections and relationships that bind it together and impel it into the future.
