For Immediate Release: |
Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery was born from Cris Dam's paintings. For too long the art business consumed studio time for this artist who never aimed to be a dealer. A year after relinquishing his position as galleriest and reclaiming the role of painter, Cris Dam shows all. Dam, Stuhltrager is honored to welcome back the reason it began. |

This Fall, Mark Andreas' sculpture defies gravity, ignites fires, hides itself in plain view, launch hundreds of lbs airborn, and harnesses the power of natural energy. Dam, Stuhltrager welcomes back a crowd favorite. |

“REACTIVE SCULPTURE” kinetic work by Mark Andreas |
Dates: Sept 14 - Oct 14 Reception: Fri. Sept 14, 7-10pm |

“TRANSCENDENCE” In Transcendence, a vessel holding sand keeps three stainless steel and fiberglass limbs interlocked by manipulating gravity. As in an hourglass, grains gently slip through a hole in the vessel downwards to earth. At the moment when too much sand is displaced, the sculpture is unbound from the weight of the sand that held it taut. Freed from physical burden, the piece is released, transcending from being a sculpture defined by tangible function to it's fundamental essence. |

“CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM” Conservation of Momentum is ignited by the artist for an audience. Aware of sculpture's dependancy on a finite fuel source, viewers await the impending transformation once the oil supply vanishes. The latent energy stored in the body of the piece deploys the sculpture’s cloak, ultimately shrouding and veiling its delicate allure. full description: pdf |

“HANGING IN BALANCE” In the graceful Hanging in Balance- wood beams, steel hips and feet are delicately posed and unpredictably triggered to collapse from the melting of a small piece of ice. At the moment when the ice returns to water, springs of 1800 lbs of pressure are triggered into action. The sculpture collapses violently into itself, changing from a dynamic to a static form. full description: pdf |

“SEED SPREADER” Towering Seed Spreader is assembled and wound by the artist in a physically laborious performance. Once tension is built to a climax, Andreas replaces his physical energy/force with a twig which is inserted into the sculpture's body. The twig's inherent nature ultimately succumbs to strenuous environment factors, activating the sculpture to jump in the air, spin three foot blades and shoot seeds which grow over the course of the exhibit. full description: pdf |
