Materials: wood, jute cloth, paint, mechanical components including; electrical circuits, motor, chain drive, polycarbonate plastic Size: 67” diameter, 13” deep, the range of movement is variable “Revolution” is a project that on several levels appears to be one thing, and turns out to be something different than what was first perceived. From a distance, “Revolution” looks like it is made of rusted plate steel. It looks massive, heavy and static. Upon closer examination, the surface is rough cloth stained with thinned out rust red paint. Contemplate this static sculptural form for more than half a minute, and the title of Revolution reveals it’s meaning as the wheel-shaped form rolls along the ground a few inches. Once accustomed to this periodic gentle movement, and actually when the thing seems to be stuck, it will suddenly reverse direction and move several feet. “Revolution” moves in increments. It seems sometimes to be no longer active. The texture of the surface is not smooth and continuous. It contains a warp and weave of threads running in contrary directions. The red color is the color of iron acted upon by entropy, the color of blood that has been spilled.
