The madcap escape of New York’s wildest inhabitants, the animals at the Bronx Zoo, has long ignited fantasies. Alert the authorities, the cages have been emptied.Ruth Marshall and her menagerie of cast Gorilla hands, antlers and knitted skins head for the warm beaches of Florida to run free in room 409 at -scope Miami.
As a habitat and exhibit designer at the Bronx Zoo, Ms Marshall has access to a cavalcade of species that outnumbers any Rousseau painting. Utilizing her all access pass, Ms Marshall’s installations spawn from shed snake skins, antlers and body casts of the animals she works with. Ms Marshall exudes a passion for her beastly colleagues. Her artwork questions the implications of an animal’s existence on “exhibit” and embodies the release of natural beauty and spirit.
